Ron Carlton is the Primacy Strategy Group’s Federal Legislative Director. He is responsible for supporting client needs in Washington, D.C., such as developing legislative strategies to advance client interests, representing clients in meetings with federal officials, and reporting out to clients on legislative and regulatory developments in Congress and the Administration that relate to their interests.

Ron has previously served in several senior roles on Capitol Hill: Director of Economic Development for Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Legislative Director for Representatives Lori Trahan (D-MA03) and Marty Meehan (D-MA 03 & 05). In those roles, he was charged with leading a broad portfolio of public policy issues, including agriculture, appropriations/budget/taxes, energy/environment, fisheries, public lands, and transportation. In each of those roles, he assisted local officials, labor unions, and private businesses to have their priorities addressed by the federal government.

Additionally, he was a senior lobbyist and Legislative Director at The Trust for Public Land (TPL), a national nonprofit conservation organization. At TPL, he advocated before Congress and the Administration for policies and funding streams to improve public access to our national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges as well as to increase federal aid for farmers and ranchers who voluntarily sought conservation easements for their land.

Most recently, he was the Program Technician for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) at a USDA Farm Service Agency County office. In that role, he assisted scores of farmers who had enrolled – or sought to enroll – their land in CRP.
